Elbarchives, Dresden 2020

As a building for a down-to-earth artist who explores the beauty of the mundane in his works, it would be inappropriate to present a sensational architectural gesture. Especially considering the design area directly in front of the Dresden Semper Opera House. For this reason, the design is closely related to the surrounding topography and seeks to merge with the Terrassenufer.

The design concept is based on the artistic technique of blurring, which can be found throughout Richter's work at all times. Whether it's the motion blur of his early photographs, which blurs the object with the background, or his abstract paintings, where the color is wiped onto the canvas with a squeegee, the technique has been widely used and reinterpreted.

Through pronounced landscaping and the direct connection from the flat building to the landscape via a ramp, the clear structure of a building blurs with the topography.
